PojokSeni/Malang - Liar's Wife tries to explore the dark side of the uncertainty of love in a beautiful and unique way through its first single entitled Checks and Calls officially released on Friday, December 13, 2024, through the independent label Wiarslife. Liar's Wife itself was founded in 2024 and consists of Savia Diva (Vocals), Ardiansyah Dwi (Guitar), Stephen Fernando (Guitar), Rizal Nandha (Bass), Thariq Hasnan (Drums). The name of the band itself is taken from the title of a psychological thriller novel.
"Liar's Wife started from us (Thariq, Jojo, Stephen) who were bored with work, then wanted to jam, but only for fun. Then I met Savia who at that time happened to be in the same work environment, and it so happened that we both liked Wolf Alice, without thinking twice, I immediately invited her to join. Then I invited my old friend, Rizal, to fill the bass position. Fun fact, I actually asked Rizal to form a band more than 5 years ago, and it just happened now," said Thariq
The name of the band Liar's Wife was also taken from a book that Savia often reads. Namely "The Liar's Wife" by Kiersten Modglin.
"The name of this band is taken from a book title entitled 'The Liar's Wife' a psychological thriller novel by Kiersten Modglin as a form of satire on phenomena that are often encountered without reducing the value of men or women," said Savia
"In addition, the reason why it is called Liar's Wife is because the pronunciation is not too difficult and is quite easy to remember," added Thariq
Basically, Liar's Wife itself is very flexible with genres and is not tied to linear genre rules. The two bands that influenced them also have no close musical connection to each other, namely Tigers Jaw and Wolf Alice.
"Our influences are actually very broad and almost different for each member, and we decided to look for several bands that we all like in terms of sound and arrangement, namely Wolf Alice, Beach Bunny, Momma, and Adventures," explained Thariq.
"The concept of Liar's Wife itself is rooted in the simplicity of melody and light lyrics guided by Savia's soft vocal resonance. However, in terms of genre, we ourselves don't bother to direct ourselves where, the important thing is that the idea in our heads is conveyed properly," said Rizal
The single "Checks and Calls" can be said to be the opening gate for fans to get to know Liar's Wife's music. This indie-rock single comes from the outpouring of emotions and a true story about the love of one of the personnel. The courtship period is a roller coaster ride. The feeling full of surprises became the bridge that led to the inspiration for writing this work.
"The surprising element of someone we love can sometimes make us feel like we're floating, but often the attitude that suddenly becomes cold and makes us wait for news from that person is the most uncomfortable feeling," explained Savia
In the single "Checks and Calls" Liar's Wife offers a relaxed beat with the aim of getting listeners to dance. However, at the same time, Liar's Wife uses a melancholic lyrical approach, written with a blend of literal and metaphorical styles that drag listeners into feelings that are foreign but close.
This song was produced and mixed in a home studio that they made in a room with the hope that this process would bring out idealism, as well as raw and creative energy in a relatively short time of less than 3 months. All elements of sound and genre are expected to merge from the various musical backgrounds of each different personnel. Even though it has been made easier with a home studio, Liar's Wife still experiences obstacles.
"During the recording process, we still encountered obstacles, especially during the recording process and post-production (mixing mastering) because everything was done by ourselves, and as an engineer, this was also my first time doing all of this, without a musical background and only equipped with suggestions from experienced and self-taught friends. Of course, this was a challenge in itself. Then, during the recording process, we were only constrained by finding the sound we wanted," said Thariq.
In the process, they also added a distinctive audio effect to the bridge section to provide an impressive audio concept experience.
The single "Checks and Calls" has been available on all DSPs since December 13, 2024 via the independent label Wiarslife.
