Pojok Seni/Bandung - ASYLM, an alternative/soundscape rock band based in Jatinangor, has just released their debut album containing 8 audio recordings, titled "Altar," on December 8, 2023.
ASYLM and "Altar" initially started as an exploratory initiative by Yedija (Vocalist), originally intended to fulfill the requirements of the final project of his study. After some time, fueled by enthusiasm from his closest circle, ASYLM transformed itself into a new form, evolving into a full-fledged band. The current lineup includes Yedija as the vocalist, supported by Demmas, Ariq, and Maligi on guitars, Kia on drums, Citta on bass, and Rico on synthesizer.
"Altar" is a conceptual album that delves into the theme of inner conflict. These eight audio recordings narrate through each song, highlighting feelings of rejection, trauma, dark memories, and self-inflicted curses. In the midst of it all, Little Diamond emerges as a figure representing the self, an individual navigating each day only to find light in the darkness.
ASYLM blends reverb-laden vocals with clean, fuzzy, and shimmery guitar tones to whisper their ideas and reverie. While it may sound cliché, "Altar" strives to be honest in conveying its narrative.
